Who has your tongue? The Lord, or satan?
Are you cursing or blessing with your words?
Psalm 59:12 (NIV)
For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips,
let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies, they utter.
Words can follow a person for their entire life. Children have the
ability to remember hurtful words, as they grow. A story I was
told by someone very close to me. As a child, their father told them
they wish they would not have been born, they would never
amount to anything and this child never forgot those words. It still
hurts to this day.

Do we think God is pleased when we speak to each other harshly,
without respect?
Proverbs 15
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the
fool gushes folly. The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping
watch on the wicked and the good. ...
Luke 6:45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up
in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored
up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
These scriptures let us know, whatever is in our heart it will come
out of our mouth. Every word is either a curse or a blessing.
The Lord wants us to bless, declare, decree! Speak His word over
situations and people.
John 6:63
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.
We're constantly tempted to think wrong thoughts, but we don't have to accept them! We have a choice! We need to purposely choose right thinking and speaking. In the Bible, Proverbs 18:21 says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue…. We must choose life generating thoughts. When we do, positive, powerful, life-giving words will naturally follow. I think some people try to control their mouths but do nothing about their thoughts. That's like pulling off the top of a weed—unless the root is dug up, the weed always comes back. You'll never control your mouth unless you first learn to control your mind.

“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” ― Lao Tzu
